Canterbury Primary Schools Triathlon

This event is taking place at Pegasus Town on Wednesday 29 November. The final check in time for this event is 9.45am, and the race briefing will commence immediately after this at 10am. The first race will start by 10.30am.

The students are encouraged to wear sensible shorts for biking and running in and their school PE top while competing. Students will also need to take suitable clothing to wear before and after their event and food to last them the day.

We are hoping that parents will be able to arrange transport for athletes and their bikes to and from Pegasus Town. If you are unable to arrange transport for your child please let us know and we will see what we are able to do to help.

The distances the children will race are

9 - 10 Years* Boys & Girls = 75m swim- Bike 5.4km - Run 2.5km
11 - 12+ Years* Boys & Girls = 100m swim - Bike 10.8km - Run 2.5km

*age as at 1 October 2017

As we are only able to enter 4 students, per age group, for this event, School Duathlon and School Swimming Sports results will be taken in to account when selecting the team. The final team will be named on Monday 20 November. Parents of those students who are selected will be notified by email.

The following are the race rules provided by Primary Sports Canterbury:

1. Swimming aids are not permitted except goggles and swim caps.
2. Cycle helmets approved to Snell, ANSI or NZ Standards must be worn and done up at all times
when competitors are in charge of their bike. There is to be no drafting and no aero bars should be used.
3. Competitors may wear no less than normal swimwear and the upper torso must be covered while on the bike and while running.
4. Assistance other than from race officials and medical personnel will result in disqualification.
5. Race officials and medical personnel have the right to remove competitors from the race.
6. All road rules and marshal’s instructions must be observed. The course will be marked and marshalled. A bike will follow the last runner.
7. No drinks are to be given during the race.
8. No bikes are to be removed from the transition area until the last race is completed. This could result in disqualification.
9. No video cameras or cameras are allowed in the transition area.
10. Competitors enter at their own risk.
10. The Race Director’s decision is final.
11. ALL COMPETITORS MUST REPORT IN AND ATTEND THE RACE BRIEFING

Please note that competitors bikes must remain in transition until all competitors in all ages groups have finished racing.
